To serve the best interest of our fellow alumni in Ontario, our team has endeavored to plan and organize activities that are alternatives to social and recreational activities. In the year between April 2009 and March 2010, we conducted the following five different types of cultural-educational activities:
Forum and Talks
From June 2009 to March 2010, our team organized 1 experience exchange session, 2 talks, and 1 visual presentation, with a total attendance of 104. The details are as follows:
Jun 10, 2009: Experience Exchange Session among Readers, Writers, and Editorial Group Members; 18 attenders
Aug 8, 2009: Penetrating the markets of mainland China and Hong Kong; 23 attenders
Jan 16, 2010: Dunhuang Grottoes Visual Presentation; 30 attenders
Mar 6, 2010: Age-related Health Issues; 33 attenders
Book Donation
Between May and October 2009, I contacted the libraries of 19 universities and 1 university college in Ontario for donating our publication “Along the shores of Lake Ontario–CUHK Alumni in Toronto” to them. As a result, 9 copies were accepted by the libraries of 6 universities and 1 university college.
Electronic Survey
In May, 2009, I conducted an electronic survey to investigate the alumni’s opinions on cultural-educational activities such as forums and talks. Questionnaires were e-mailed to 380 alumni, and 36 valid filled questionnaires were returned, with a response rate of 9.5%. Based on the findings this survey, I planned and organized the afore-mentioned forum, presentation, and talks.
Forum and Sub-Forums
In June 2009, I created a sub-forum entitled “Along the Shores of Lake Ontario” with the assistance of Michael Cheng and Joseph Wong. Until recently, more than 30 articles and replies were posted by 5 alumni and 2 exchange students. At the end of February 2010, the structure of the Forum and the titles of the Sub-Forums were modified, and the articles were reassigned to appropriate sub-forums.
Gathering with Exchange Students
After the gathering with exchange students from our Alma Mater on February 7, 2010, I wrote an article reporting this event and submitted it to the CUHK Alumni Magazine for publication in the March issue of 2010.
